What inspired you to choose accounting? I liked the business prep accounting classes and a lot of my family members are also accountants! I like how there is an answer that I need to find in the numbers, as opposed to Finance which is more predicting numbers that might not be correct.

Why did you join SAS? I joined SAS when I thought I was really behind in my career development after the ACCTG 331 orientation. SAS has helped me so much and made my experience at SDSU much more enjoyable.

Interesting fact? I taught myself how to play the ukulele after my mom got me one for my birthday while wanted one in high school. It’s my favorite instrument to play today!

Who has the largest influence in your life and why? My mom has always been the largest influence in my life. I really look up to her as she raised me and my two other siblings as a single mom. She has been an accountant for the County of Los Angeles for 30 years now and it never ceases to amaze me how hard she works while still always being so happy and grateful for everything she has. Anytime I need advice on something, I go to her because she has gone through a lot of the same things already.

Hobbies? I love to watch movies and TV shows as well as listen to and play music. Some other things I enjoy doing are paddle boarding, hiking trails if it is not too hot and the trail is not too strenuous, and taking pictures and videos while sometimes attempting to put them together in a cool, funny video with a perfect song to go along with it.

What inspired you to pursue accounting?  I like working with numbers! My parents also have an accountant who talked to me about majoring in accounting. I noticed how happy he was when he was working and he knew all his clients by name. He went above and beyond to help people with any questions they had, even if it was late at night. I wanted to have a job where I was able to interact with people like that and enjoy what I do. He advised me to pursue tax accounting and here I am!

Why you joined SAS? I was super shy the first two years of college and in my junior year, I decided that I needed to get involved on campus and put myself out there. I joined SAS after hearing one of the officers talk about the organization in my accounting class. I also wanted to find a student organization where I could make new friends and help myself develop my accounting career.

Interesting story about yourself? Pretty sure someone tried to kidnap me once. I was at a volunteer event and a guy pulled up in his car and offered to help me take the event signs out of the ground. Then he kept asking me to sit in the front seat of his car so it would be “easier for me to pick up the signs.” I just kept refusing and ran in the opposite direction of his car.

Who has the largest influence in your life and why? I think the person with the largest influence in my life was my grandma. I would rush home from SDSU every day to be with her and if she was ever sick, I would sleep on the couch so I could be ready to help her when she needed it. She taught me to always respect others and show them kindness. She was very soft-hearted and told me to always work hard and pursue what I wanted. I worked hard in school so I could support her later in life and buy her plane tickets to Laos when I was able to work. She encouraged me to do well in school and was always by my side. Unfortunately she passed away in 2015. Now one of my new goals is to make enough money to visit her grave in Laos.

Hobbies? Graphic design, dance, and art.

What inspired you to choose accounting?  I chose accounting because I wanted to do something in math. I found that I enjoyed accounting the most. I like that there is equality in accounting: with debits and credits equaling each other.

Why did you join SAS? I joined SAS to be apart of an accounting group at SDSU. I learned about SAS from the accounting 331 orientation, and the welcome week tent. Joining SAS has given me more networking time with professionals, and meeting fellow SAS members.

Interesting fact?  I keep 2 fish tanks with betta fish, silver hatchet fish, and mini corycat fish. I have had my fish for over a year now and my tanks are thriving.

Who has the largest influence in your life and why? My best friend is the largest influence in my life because she has always been there for me and supported me through thick and thin. My dad is one of the reasons why I go to school because he always supported me and was always encouraging me to do the best I can in school and my classes.

Hobbies? I enjoy swimming and listening to 50/60’s music, along with country music. I was a swimmer in high school. I competitively swam butterfly. I grew up with country music, while I picked up my enjoyment for 50/60’s music when I attended Grossmont College
